Meet Dr-Fix-It "Doc" Donald W.Sahs grew up in rural northern Wisconsin. He pursued his college education at the University of Wisconsin where he studied Mechanical Engineering, with Minors in Math Theory and Business Risk Management. Doc's experience with computers dates back to the 1972 when he first learned to write assembly language for the Univac 1108.
After college, Doc's varied career included founding two repair businesses, working as Chief Engineer at five resort hotels and becoming the Corporate Engineer for a Western USA Resort Hotel Corporation. His duties included day-to-day maintenance operations as well as overseeing major construction projects and building renovations. Currently, Doc is the Chief Engineer of a Hotel Development Corporation in La Quinta, California.
Early on, friends nicknamed Don "The Doc" in response to the generally held notion that he could fix anything. Doc quips, "If I can't fix it, I'll make it work." Over the years, Doc's talents have been utilized to fix unusual problems. For instance, he successfully ,"sunk" an in-ground swimming pool that "floated" due to unusually high ground water. Another time, he built a wood-fired refrigerator for use in a remote location. No matter if the problem was with a steam engine or a Lear jet, Doc got them going . . .
" I was moved to start this web site", explains Doc, " to try to help owners and managers cope with problems of their commercial buildings by providing a single source of information tailored to their needs and with their time constraints in mind. Over the years, I have seen managers make the wrong decisions because the decisions were based on information given to them by uninformed Maintenance Personnel or contractors with a secret agenda. I hope Dr-Fix-It.Com will become a valued resource where an owner or a manager of a commercial building can get a straight answer".
