BFIMA Training meets the needs of sailors in ships and at the intermediate-level repair commands with some 45 courses and primarily falls within the training domains of the NPDC Centers for Surface Operations and Naval Engineering. Although the BFIMA Training curriculum changes to address emerging requirements, the program has remained true to its original mission: increase the quality of repair work on the deck plates and in the shops by delivering criterion-based training in those environments. That the program achieves its objectives is demonstrated by many factors, including productivity studies, customer critiques, and the sheer volume of sailors who have completed BFIMA courses.
