Diamond tipped tools are ideal for quick, clean machining (drilling, cutting) of any type of building material or natural construction-grade stone, with substantial cost and time reductions, especially useful for small applications. The type of tools has two parts: the diamond blade and the steel shank connected together with an attaching segment.
The blade is made of a mix of metal powder/diamond granule mix. The cold-pressed mix yields a slug (of variable form) which must then be sintered (heated and pressed). The result is an alloy with varying mechanical characteristics. There are many types of segment and blade, with continuous or turbo rim.
The shank is made of high grade steel, with a low carbon content if used for laser welded tools. The attaching segment between the blade and the shank is obtained with various technologies:

- Brazed: a silver alloy braze joins the parts without welding. This is only suitable for water-cooled cutting applications. Dry cutting is unsuitable for tools of less than 4 mm. joint thickness.
- Laser welded: welds the parts togheter using a laser. This allows for safe use of segmented tools
- for dry cutting.
- Sintered: the powder mix is cold-pressed directly onto the shank. The successive sintering in
- moulds yields continuous or segmented rim disks, with smooth or turbo segments. Allows for safe
- use of the tool for dry cutting.
- After the joint has been obtained the diamond blade must be ground according to its cutting direction.
- The tool is then straightened and pre-stessed to ensure perfectly rectilinear rotation without vibra-tion
- at the cutting speed.
